San Diego Art Prize
“We were encouraged by sales of art by the SD Art Prize recipients. The donations made by the Quint Gallery in appreciation of our work to promote Adam Belt & Jay S. Johnson will help to underwrite the cash component of the prize for next year. ART SAN DIEGO fair very kindly donated the booth space at the fair to make this exposure possible.” – Patricia Frischer, Coordinator | San Diego Visual Arts Network

Both of the Award Recipients for 2011 have associations with UCSD. Ortiz-Torres, a California Institute for the Arts graduate, has worked in a variety of media, from painting to film to customized cars. Considered one of Mexico’s leading artists, his work is in the Museum of Modern Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and is represented by OMR. Johnson is best known for his wooden sculptures. A graduate of San Diego State University, he was recently represented in “Quint: Three Decades of Contemporary Art” at the California Center for the Arts Escondido Museum.
